Someone recently asked which cicadas live in the Toronto area in Canada. Here are links to three such cicadas:
Okanagana canadensis (Canadian cicada)

Thank you Dan, I have ordered the book at Amazon.
What a fantastic site. I have listened to these insects all my life and never knew what they were or what they looked like. We always called them ‘heat bugs’ since they only ‘sing’ when the weather is very warm (summer here in Canada). I always assumed Cicadas were from the midwest USA. I never knew there were that many varieties and that they were world wide. Prooves you are never too old to learn something new. Thanks again.
Thank you again. My recording sound is here :

I think this song is of T. canicularis (Dog-day cicada).
Your distribution map of cicadas in that area is not published ?
That definitely is a T. canicularis.
The maps I have are from the book The Songs of Insects, http://www.musicofnature.org/songsofinsects/ourbook.html
Unfortunately, I don’t have digital versions of maps.
I checked the maps I had of cicadas in the area, and Tibicen lyricen might also be in the area. http://www.musicofnature.org/songsofinsects/iframes/cicadas/popup_tibilyri.html
Thank you Dan. “Someone” is me. I stayed in Canada last week and I could hear one song of cicada species in Waterloo (University of Waterloo) and around Square One, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This song is
about 15 seconds long, simple, continuous high tone like “Ki——-n” or “Bi——–n”. Unfortunately, I can’t catch the cicadas. I think this cicada is Tibicen canicularis (Dog-day cicada).
However, can I conclude ? Are there any other possibilities ? If anyone knows the distribution of cicadas in Canada, please let me know the reference paper or book.
I want to report my observations to the transactions of Japan Cicada Club and want to write the evidence to decide the species.
